The Trump Show is a journey through four years of cringeworthy clips and embarrassing tweets, played over the dulcet tones of…grime music? An interesting choice.
The series’ producers are likely getting ahead of the game by releasing this four-part documentary on the quiffed and questionable president, before the unavoidable rush of You’ve Been Framed-style highlight reels we’re bound to get, once he’s packed his bags and left the White House. You may well question why we would want to watch a Trump documentary when he’s still (for now) the President.
But whilst it’s no Taskmaster, the series is still highly entertaining. We hear from the numerous former aides who got the boot – the words “lunatic” and “crazy” thrown about like confetti at a wedding – and Stormy Daniels discusses the near-constant threat of impeachment, and, for anyone not already hiding under the table, the US President’s member. Despite it being an ongoing story, the show effectively reflects upon the madness of a businessman / reality TV star becoming president – a social experiment nobody could have predicted the consequences of.
The Independent’s Sean O’Grady calls it “highly entertaining,” with “plenty of fresh detail and insights.” Carol Midgley in The Times agrees, calling it “punchy and spritzy,” whilst in The Telegraph, Anita Singh thought “It was a light treatment, superficial and gossipy in an entertaining way.”
First shown October 2020. You can watch the trailer by pressing play on the show image, or by clicking here.
